Her passion, generosity, and community-first approach make her a true asset to the Interlake and a deserving Entrepreneur of the Year.

Kelsey Morgan | Young Entrepreneur

Kelsey Morgan, co-founder of Eventcetera, is a dynamic young entrepreneur passionate about hospitality, community, and creativity. With experience as a Supervisor at Gimli Lakeview Resort and recent certification in Event Coordination, she has already left her mark by organizing Winnipeg Beach’s first-ever Snow & Shine showcase during the Wonderful Winter Weekend 2025. Alongside her partner, Sean Kasper, Kelsey is building Eventcetera into a go-to service for local event planning. Her vibrant energy, humble leadership, and online presence as “Cupcake Kelcie” inspire others both in-person and virtually. At just 33, her dedication to community engagement and her drive to grow her business make her a standout for the Young Entrepreneur Award.

Nancy Stillinger & Marion Yamada | Community Volunteer of the Year

The Lakeside Quilters, under the leadership of Nancy Stillinger and Marion Yamada, delivered an outstanding 2023 Lakeside Quilt Show that welcomed over 600 guests to the Gimli Rec Centre. Entirely volunteer-run, this vibrant two-day event showcased hundreds of quilts, supported local and regional makers, and featured donation quilts gifted to the Gimli Seniors Resource Council and Interlake Women’s Resource Centre. The show also raised funds for the Westshore Foundation and promoted accessibility, inclusivity, and community spirit. Nancy and Marion’s dedication to collaboration, hospitality, and social impact makes them deserving recipients of the Community Volunteer of the Year Aard.

Scott Carman | Leadership in Diversity & Inclusion & Entrepreneur of the Year

Scott Carman, owner of Ship & Plough, has spent over a decade creating a welcoming, community-focused space in Gimli. Under his leadership, the pub has become one of Manitoba’s top live music venues while championing diversity and inclusion. From proudly flying the LGBTQ+ flag to hosting drag shows and helping organize Gimli’s Pride celebration, Scott fosters a safe, inclusive environment for all. His support for marginalized voices and commitment to equity has had a lasting impact on the community. Recognized with the Community Builder Award by the Manitoba LGBT Chamber of Commerce, Scott exemplifies both entrepreneurial excellence and meaningful leadership in diversity and inclusion.

Westshore Community Foundation | Legacy of Impact Award & Interlake Impact Award

Celebrating 25 years in 2024, the Westshore Community Foundation has become a cornerstone of generosity and growth in the Interlake. Since 1999, they have distributed over $2.1 million to local projects, nonprofits, and scholarships—over $98,000 in 2023 alone. From capital improvements to environmental initiatives, their impact is visible across the region. With 18 organizations and 19 students supported last year, their commitment to "Building a Lasting Legacy" rings true. Their unwavering dedication to community development ensures that every dollar invested creates lasting change, strengthening the fabric of the Interlake for generations to come.  The Foundation continues to uplift communities and empower future generations, making them a shining example of the Legacy of Impact Award & Interlake Impact Award. 

Interlake Brewing Co. | Tourism & Hospitality Excellence Award

Interlake Brewing Co., led by Kristin and Graham, continues to set the standard for tourism and hospitality in Gimli. With year-round events like live music, comedy nights, trivia, and community fundraisers, they’ve created a welcoming hub for locals and tourists alike. Their rooftop curling rink and ice shack food deliveries highlight their innovation in embracing winter tourism, while their convenience store offers ice fishing essentials and fresh food for visitors. Constantly evolving with new menu items and on-site brewing, Interlake Brewing Co. not only enhances the visitor experience but actively supports other businesses, events, and charitable causes—making them a true champion of tourism and hospitality in the Interlake.

Romanna Klymkiw | Legacy of Impact & Young Entrepreneur Award

Romanna Klymkiw is a shining example of a young entrepreneur and community leader whose passion for music has blossomed into a thriving home-based business in Gimli. Offering inclusive piano, voice, and guitar lessons, she also leads camps, day programs, and arts initiatives that inspire learners of all ages. A dedicated board member of the Westshore Community Foundation, Romanna advocates for the Ukrainian immigrant community and volunteers her time to uplift others. Her creativity, leadership, and compassion extend far beyond her studio—enriching local culture, mentoring youth, and strengthening community ties. Romanna’s dedication to growth, inclusion, and connection makes her a deserving recipient of both the Young Entrepreneur and Legacy of Impact Awards.

Carlos Guzzi & Carlo’s Cucina | Entrepreneur of the Year & Tourism & Hospitality Excellence Award 

Since opening in November 2024, Carlos Cucina has quickly become a standout in Gimli’s culinary scene. Carlo’s passion for exceptional food and service has expanded his business to include dine-in, catering, and takeaway, all while maintaining top-tier quality. A three-time Interlake Le Burger Week champion, Carlo has drawn thousands through his doors, boosting tourism and the local economy. His Thursday suppers are renowned for their variety and flavor, and his commitment to the community is unmatched. Carlo and his partner Marnie are beloved for their warmth and dedication, making Carlos Cucina a true gem in both entrepreneurship and hospitality.

Brittany Isfeld | Interlake Impact Award
Brittany Isfeld is a visionary leader whose dedication to economic development, tourism, and community building has transformed the Interlake. As the founder of Meanwhile in Gimli, a 25,000-member online hub, she empowers local businesses, drives tourism, and fosters connection. Her #BuyCanadianBuildCanada movement promotes local products and strengthens regional resilience.

She revived the Gimli Chamber of Commerce and led initiatives like the Gimli Ice Fishing Road, Beach Bash concert series, and Pickrell Path food trail. Brittany also advocates for the fishing industry, supports women through online communities, and volunteers tirelessly—always putting her community first. Her unmatched impact makes her the ideal recipient of the Interlake Impact Award.

Chad Ermel | Entrepreneur of the Year
Chad Ermel, owner of Flatland Coffee Roasters, is a standout candidate for Entrepreneur of the Year. Since rebranding his business, Chad has demonstrated exceptional vision, leadership, and commitment to quality—roasting his own beans, managing operations hands-on, and delivering an experience that goes beyond the coffee cup. His tireless work ethic and passion have grown a loyal customer base and elevated the Flatland brand in the Interlake.

Since 2013, Flatland has served as a welcoming community hub in Gimli, thanks to Chad’s dedication to inclusivity, excellence, and connection. His impact on both the local economy and hospitality scene is undeniable, making him a truly deserving recipient of this award.

Hailey’s Way Inc. | Non-Profit Organization of the Year

Hailey’s Way Inc. has made an extraordinary impact in Gimli by championing youth engagement, wellness, and inclusion. As the driving force behind the Gimli Youth Hub, they have created a safe, judgment-free space offering free drop-in programs, music lessons, art activities, and recreational opportunities. Their work ensures all youth—regardless of background or income—have access to meaningful development. Hailey’s Way collaborates with local organizations to expand programming across the Interlake, focusing on the arts, music, and sports. Their vision goes beyond today—by investing in youth, they are shaping the future of our business and community landscape. Gimli International Film Festival (GIFF) | Non-Profit Organization of the Year

Celebrating its 25th year, the Gimli International Film Festival (GIFF) has grown from a small local event into the largest rural film festival in Western Canada. Held annually in July, GIFF attracts thousands of visitors from across Manitoba, Canada, and the world—boosting the local economy by filling hotels, restaurants, and shops. With a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and support for Indigenous and emerging filmmakers, GIFF provides a vital platform for artistic expression and industry networking. Powered by a dedicated team of volunteers, the festival uplifts Canadian cinema and transforms Gimli into a global destination for culture, creativity, and connection.

Ron Starr | Entrepreneur of the Year

Ron Starr, owner of Sanifresh, is a dedicated and hard-working entrepreneur whose commitment to quality service has made his business a trusted name across the Interlake. Over the past few years, Ron has significantly expanded his operations, offering specialized cleaning services to commercial buildings, residential homes, and seasonal cottages. Known for his reliability and willingness to go above and beyond, Ron has also introduced new equipment to better serve his growing clientele. Alongside his spouse Cindy, he actively supports local events and organizations, including the Gimli Chamber of Commerce and Car Club. Ron’s integrity, presence, and perseverance make him a standout candidate for Entrepreneur of the Year.

Flag of Humanity | Non-Profit Organization of the Year

Flag of Humanity, founded by Bruce Benson, is a powerful movement rooted in Gimli with a message that resonates globally. Guided by his motto, "The Embrace," Bruce promotes unity, compassion, and environmental responsibility through simple yet impactful actions—like anonymously picking up garbage to inspire change. His work encourages people to recognize their shared humanity, regardless of religion or background. From donating $3,000 to a school in Guatemala to offering free Flags of Humanity to Manitoba teachers, Bruce's generosity and vision extend far beyond borders. LiAnne Snow | Young Entrepreneur Award
LiAnne is a driven and passionate young entrepreneur who has brought innovation and energy to Gimli’s fitness scene. At just 32, she opened Lakeside Spin while working full-time, creating a fun, inclusive, and empowering space for people to enjoy movement and wellness. With a diploma in Recreation Coordination and a specialization in facility management, LiAnne has applied her education and vision to launch something truly unique in the community. She leads a growing team of instructors, fosters a strong sense of belonging, and inspires confidence through health and activity. Her leadership, determination, and positive impact make her a standout recipient of the Young Entrepreneur Award.

Gimli Art Club | Non-Profit Organization of the Year

The Gimli Art Club is a vibrant cultural hub that brings creativity, connection, and community spirit to the heart of Gimli. The Creative Cocoon – Interlake Impact Award

The Creative Cocoon has made a transformative impact on Arborg and the surrounding region by making arts and wellness accessible to all. Through innovative, inclusive programming—such as art play, sound meditation, and music sessions for youth and individuals with disabilities—they foster personal growth, confidence, and community connection. Their recent expansion, including the new Vibrations Music Room, and support from provincial programs demonstrate their commitment to long-term growth. By collaborating with local businesses, schools, and organizations, The Creative Cocoon strengthens the cultural and economic fabric of the region. Their vision, leadership, and dedication make them a truly deserving recipient of the Interlake Impact Award.

Ryan Beck, Lawncare at the Lake – Young Entrepreneur Award

Ryan Beck, owner of Lawncare at the Lake, is the definition of a dedicated and driven young entrepreneur. Since 2011, Ryan has grown his business from a small lawn care service into a thriving operation serving both residential and commercial clients across the Interlake. Known for his reliability, integrity, and unmatched work ethic, Ryan continues to expand his reach while maintaining exceptional service. Alongside his partner Vanessa, he also contributes to winter tourism as an ice fishing guide, showcasing his year-round commitment to the region. Humble, hardworking, and community-focused, Ryan is an inspiring example of entrepreneurial success and a deserving recipient of the Young Entrepreneur Award.

Ernest Stefanson & Claire Gillis | Community Volunteer of the Year

Ernest Stefanson and Claire Gillis are a remarkable team whose quiet generosity and unwavering commitment have left a lasting legacy in Gimli. As former owners of Pharmasave, they supported countless local initiatives through donations, sponsorships, and volunteer service. Their deep Icelandic roots and dedication to community heritage are evident through their involvement in projects like the Viking Statue, boardwalk, and cultural festivals. Most recently, they spearheaded the Stefanson Hus assisted living project, contributing $2 million and guiding it from concept to completion. Humble, kind, and always working behind the scenes, Ernest and Claire are true pillars of the community and richly deserving of this award.

Arborg Bifrost Parks and Recreation Commission | Interlake Impact Award

For over 30 years, the Arborg Bifrost Parks and Recreation Commission (ABPRC) has been a driving force behind community well-being, inclusivity, and volunteerism in the region. With over 75 annual programs and more than 1,200 participants, ABPRC supports a wide range of local groups and maintains vital recreational spaces. Their Phil Bauernhuber Accessibility Fund, raising over $50,000 to date, ensures facilities are welcoming to all. From youth development to volunteer recognition, their initiatives strengthen community ties, promote active lifestyles, and inspire collaboration. Rayme Thomson of R.Thomson Photography exemplifies dedication and passion through his tireless after-hours work capturing the spirit of the Interlake. While managing the Autumnwood Motel & RV Resort full-time, Rayme built his photography business by covering minor hockey games, motorsports, sled races, and countless community events—often unpaid, using his own resources. His humble, behind-the-scenes presence has brought visibility to underrepresented areas like Peguis, Arborg, and Gimli, while his work is regularly featured in the Express. Whether at the rink, a backroad, or a festival, Rayme captures the moments that matter most. His selfless contributions and commitment to lifelong learning make him a truly deserving recipient of the After Hours Excellence Award.


Evergreen Basic Needs | Non-Profit Organization of the Year

Evergreen Basic Needs (EBN) is a vital pillar of support in the community, providing essential services with compassion, dignity, and impact. Through its food bank, EBN distributes over 10,000 lbs of food each month, meeting the needs of families facing food insecurity. Beyond this critical service, EBN operates a retail store that serves the entire community and provides valuable employment opportunities. The organization also offers meaningful volunteer experiences, fostering a strong sense of connection and giving back. Kim Magnusson | Entrepreneur of the Year

Kim Magnusson of Johnsons Fashion & Footwear has elevated her long-standing business into a national shopping destination through innovation, risk-taking, and outstanding customer service. Over the past two years, she introduced the wildly successful Blingo Boxes and a thriving online presence, drawing loyal customers from across Canada and the U.S. Her Wednesday Shop Social Facebook Lives and monthly Blingo events regularly sell out, generating excitement and substantial growth in both online and in-store sales. Kim’s engaging presence and personalized service have not only transformed Johnsons into a retail powerhouse but have also brought increased traffic and economic benefit to the entire Gimli business community.

Riverton & District Friendship Centre | Interlake Impact Award

The Riverton & District Friendship Centre is a pillar of inclusivity, connection, and cultural pride in the Interlake. Through diverse, culturally grounded programs, they support individuals of all ages and backgrounds—Indigenous, Métis, and non-Indigenous alike—offering services in education, employment, housing, family support, mental health, and harm reduction. Their commitment to cultural preservation is evident through language initiatives, pow wow clubs, elder-youth mentorships, and traditional teachings that foster identity and healing. Aurora Recovery Centre – Leadership in Diversity & Inclusion Award

Aurora Recovery Centre exemplifies leadership in diversity and inclusion through its commitment to culturally informed, identity-affirming care. With Indigenous-led programming like drumming circles, ribbon skirt-making, and sacred teachings, the centre fosters healing through cultural reconnection. Aurora has created a safe, welcoming space for LGBTQ+2 individuals, training staff in inclusive language and ensuring programming reflects diverse identities. Their approach to holistic wellness includes yoga, qigong, and meditation, supporting whole-person recovery. Policy reforms have led to more diverse hiring, including Indigenous and LGBTQ+2 representation in leadership. Sherry Benson Podolchuk | Legacy of Impact Award
Sherry Benson Podolchuk is a powerful force for change whose legacy is built on courage, advocacy, and compassion. A retired RCMP officer turned national speaker, author, and consultant, Sherry has dedicated her life to creating safer, more respectful workplaces across Canada. Through her books, Women Not Wanted and Find Your Voice, she empowers others to speak up against harassment and conflict. As founder of Star Agassi Consulting, she works with organizations to foster inclusive, healthy environments.

Her contributions have shaped national policy, earned her the Canada 150 Senate Medal, and inspired audiences through platforms like TEDx and SHEday. Sherry’s legacy is one of resilience, empathy, and transformative impact—locally and beyond.

Tim Arnason – Community Volunteer of the Year

Tim Arnason is a dedicated and compassionate community leader whose volunteer work has left a lasting impact on Gimli and the surrounding area. A key contributor to the development and growth of the Westshore Community Foundation, Tim has served in many volunteer roles, always guided by his deep love for the community. Alongside his wife Delphine, he established a scholarship to support young adults pursuing careers in the music industry, reflecting his commitment to youth and the arts. Tim’s quiet leadership, generosity, and unwavering support for local organizations make him a truly deserving recipient of the Community Volunteer of the Year Award.

Barb Gluck & Gwen Harp | Community Volunteer of the Year

Barb Gluck and Gwen Harp have been the driving force behind the Gimli Glider Exhibit since its opening in 2017, dedicating eight years of volunteer service to preserving and sharing Gimli’s remarkable aviation history. Their passion, leadership, and commitment to the exhibit’s motto—Educate, Enlighten, Entertain—have drawn thousands of visitors from across the Interlake and around the world. Through their tireless efforts, they’ve not only kept the Gimli Glider story alive but have also shone a spotlight on the town of Gimli and its many offerings. Their work has strengthened community pride and created a lasting legacy of education and inspiration.


Seth Noordman | Leadership in Diversity & Inclusion Award

Seth Noordman, founder of Sweet Fern Sugaring, exemplifies inclusive leadership by creating one of the safest and most welcoming spaces in the community. Her business is more than a service—it’s a sanctuary for women, LGBTQ+2 individuals, and anyone seeking support, acceptance, and empowerment. Seth’s advocacy around mental health, ADHD, body positivity, and LGBTQ+2 rights is both courageous and compassionate. Through education, authenticity, and vulnerability, she breaks stigma and builds confidence in others. Her unwavering support for survivors of domestic violence and commitment to uplifting marginalized voices make her a beacon of strength and belonging. Katie Jones is the founder of Katie’s Firearm Safety, a thriving Manitoba-based business that provides mobile firearm education across the province. While managing a full-time role at Arborg Auto Body, Katie spends her weekends traveling to rural and urban communities to teach PAL certification and Hunter Education courses. Her inclusive, hands-on approach and firearm rental program remove barriers and make learning accessible to beginners and underrepresented groups. With a background in competitive trap shooting and a passion for public safety, Katie’s impact extends far beyond licensing—she’s building safer communities and empowering people to learn responsibly. Her work ethic, heart, and commitment to education have made her a respected mentor, role model, and a truly deserving recipient of this award.

Carson, Stafford, & Alann Mellon | Tourism & Hospitality of Excellence and Young Entrepreneurs Award

Carson, Stafford, and Alann Mellon, owners of Fun in the Sun Beach Rentals, have become key contributors to Gimli’s tourism and hospitality landscape. Since 2020, they’ve transformed their small seasonal rental business into a go-to experience on Gimli Beach, offering kayaks, paddleboards, and beach gear with top-notch service and warm local charm. Their presence enhances the visitor experience, drawing tourists to the shoreline and boosting foot traffic for nearby shops, restaurants, and attractions. The trio proudly promotes the Interlake, recommending local hot spots and welcoming guests with friendly, knowledgeable service. Their commitment to safety, professionalism, and community pride has elevated Gimli as a summer destination.
